How it works

Intestinal stabilization and effective diarrhea Control

Pectin is a highly valuable feed material that can make a significant contribution to intestinal health. It reinforces the intestinal barrier, facilitates nutrient absorption, and encourages the proliferation of beneficial intestinal bacteria, thereby maintaining equilibrium within the intestinal flora.

Pectin is also effective in reducing diarrhea by regulating water absorption in the intestine and improving stool consistency. This has the dual benefit of promoting intestinal stability and positively affecting the general health of the animals.

Composition

Intricately extracted from apples and citrus fruits

Pectins are naturally occurring structural carbohydrates that are found in a wide variety of plants and play an important role in the structure of the cell wall. In their natural form, protopectins, they are insoluble in water.

Our sophisticated extraction process allows us to remove the protopectin from the cell wall, resulting in a highly functional pectin that is perfectly suited for animal feed. Extracted pectin is distinguished by its high bioavailability and has been demonstrated to bolster digestive processes and the health of the digestive system in animals.

Benefits of pectin

The 3-fold effect in the feeding of livestock

Increase in viscosity

  • Pectin reduces the passage rate of the feed
  • Pectin helps food remain in the digestive tract longer
  • This gives the animal more time to absorb the necessary nutrients

Double mucous membrane protection

  • Pectin protects the intestinal mucosa physically and biologically
  • Pectin reduces the adhesion of facultative pathogenic bacteria
  • Pectin soothes irritation and inflammation of the mucous membranes

Prebiotic effect

  • Pectin is fermented in the large intestine. This releases fatty acids, which serve as nutrients for the intestinal wall
  • This results in a moderate lowering of the pH value
  • This helps to create the optimal conditions for a stable microbiome in the large intestine

pektinmischungen-fuer-kalb

Extracted pectins for calves

Extracted pectins assist in maintaining the natural barrier functions of the calf’s intestines and stabilizing the digestive tract through a 3-fold effect. It is essential to provide the newborn calf with additional protection beyond the initial 10-day period during which it is safeguarded by colostrum. As the calf matures, the concentration and absorption capacity of the protective immunoglobulins diminish, necessitating a more robust intervention strategy. The calf’s immune system is frequently not yet sufficiently robust at this stage. The calf’s defenses must therefore be supported.

pektinmischungen-fuer-ferkel

Extracted pectins for piglets

During the first weeks of life and the weaning period, piglets are particularly vulnerable to gastrointestinal disorders, such as weaning diarrhea. Extracted pectins can stabilize the intestine of juvenile pigs by means of the 3-fold effect. These products support intestinal functions and help to compensate for feeding-related digestive disorders, particularly in young animals.

Pectin in animal feed

The prebiotically active pectin is a natural stabilizing agent for the digestive system in (young) animals.

The natural protopectin stored in apples is the key to healthy calf rearing. During the production of fruit juice, the protopectin remains in the solid press residue, which is commonly referred to as “pomace”. It is a naturally occurring substance that plays a vital role in maintaining the structural integrity of plant cells.

A stable digestive tract is the foundation for healthy, well-developed animals in calf rearing. This is also the foundation for successful and economical dairy farming. Pectin’s prebiotic effect reinforces the intestine’s natural barrier functions and maintains a healthy balance of bacteria in the digestive tract.

Diarrhea in newborn calves may lead to massive problems in calf rearing and in the worst case, calves can be lost. It is possible to prevent these digestive disorders effectively through the use of prebiotically active pectins during the feeding phase.
